Technical checks and difficulty evidence.

The new skills labs and expanded Mechanical practice have internal AI-assisted checks. Independent specialist review and observed candidate difficulty testing remain pending.

What changed

  • October 18 assessment upgrade: eight Architectural mock replacements and five Civil mock replacements require original charts, operating points, compatible quantity bases or multiple constraints. Earlier mock editions remain available to saved attempts.
  • Architectural now has 40 lab exercises and Civil has 32, including 12 fresh transfer problems each. A missed-question review links to a focused refresher and the next unchecked transfer problem for applicable methods. Repeated work preserves the original first response.
  • PE Mechanical: HVAC and Refrigeration: 96 added targeted applications, for 144 total; 16 Mock B replacements test different governing decisions; previous assessment edition 2026-10-18.1 is archived.
  • Mechanical and Architectural each include 12 original psychrometric chart cases, four equipment/reference exercises and twelve alternative-response drills.
  • Civil includes four construction-chart cases, four reference/table exercises and twelve alternative-response drills.
  • Six guided visual teaching sequences across the three programs, including four applicable to Mechanical and Architectural, pair existing conceptual equipment/site illustrations with precise schematics or original plotted data. Linked narrated lessons retain their own stated givens and units.

How the technical review is performed

  1. Recalculate from printed givens independently of the stored answer. Check units, mass and energy bases and physical feasibility.
  2. Inspect every choice, rounding interval and supported reading precision. Look for duplicates, repeated answer-position patterns and alternatives based on unrelated quantities.
  3. Check chart scales, curve families, legends, screen readability, zoom and equivalent keyboard response controls.
  4. Verify server-side answer withholding, access gates, first-response preservation, conflict handling and historical assessment grading.

The psychrometric chart uses original orthogonal Tdb–W geometry and ASHRAE ideal-gas relationships at 14.696 psia. It is not a copy of the official chart. Wet-bulb and enthalpy lines are calculated separately. ASHRAE Fundamentals: Psychrometrics ↗

What independent review must establish

  1. A credentialed specialist solves a blinded set using the applicable authorized examination references, without seeing answer keys. Record ambiguity, missing givens, scope, difficulty and each distractor's plausibility.
  2. Representative candidates work unseen items under observed conditions. Record correctness, active response time, reference-search time and interface friction without treating self-reported study time as observed timing.
  3. Review item difficulty, distractor selection and discrimination only with adequate sample sizes. A small pilot supports revision decisions, not reliable pass predictions.
  4. Reassemble forms to balance the published topic coverage, reasoning demand and measured time. Archive any replaced edition before changing keys or givens.

Current per-item timing budgets are provisional author estimates. Mechanical working limits remain eight hours; Architectural and Civil retain their existing discipline-specific forms. Similar topic labels or question counts do not establish equivalent difficulty.
