What changes on the PE Civil Construction exam in April 2027?
The published April 2027 update changes the supplied design standards. ACI 318 is added, AISC moves to the 16th edition, MUTCD Part 6 moves to the 11th edition, and OSHA moves to the 2024 list with Part 1904 added. The 80-question format, eight hours of exam time, and 11 knowledge areas remain the same in the linked specifications.
Match your study references to your exam appointment. The comparison below shows the old and new editions side by side; a later edition is not automatically the edition supplied on your exam.

What changes in the published Construction reference list?
The two Construction PDFs linked by NCEES retain the same 11 knowledge areas and question ranges. The important differences shown in these documents are in the design-standard list. The April 2027 PDF's knowledge-area pages still carry an April 2024 heading; its final standards page states April 2027. Use the exam-page link and the standards effective date together when checking your appointment.
This comparison describes the published lists checked on October 18, 2026. A reference no longer listed separately may be incorporated into another permitted source; that does not make the underlying topic irrelevant.

A date-and-reference decision you can practice
Consider two candidates, one testing March 30, 2027 and one April 2, 2027. They may practice the same original tributary-area calculation, but they must verify different applicable standards lists. The published reference editions, not the age of a memorized worked solution, determine which reference path to rehearse. Our current Civil program remains mapped through March 2027.

- Compare every knowledge area and question range with the course outline you plan to use.
- Obtain the current reference handbook and permitted design standards.
- Recheck the NCEES exam page close to the appointment for guide or policy updates.
Practice the decisions that still transfer
Unit consistency, soil-state conversions and reference navigation remain useful preparation skills. Practice them with original problems while checking the applicable reference edition separately. A correct answer to a free learning exercise does not validate a course's full coverage for a later specification.
